Members of the public, especially children, are being called to be part of Levuka Town’s celebration of its World Heritage Site from December 13-14.

This was the message from the Department of Heritage and Arts director Peni Cavuilagi yesterday.

The old capital was first announced as a World Heritage Site on June 22, 2013 by United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization.

“We want people to join us in the historic event as we continue to protect and beautify the town,” Mr Cavuilagi said.

The main event will take place this Saturday at Nasau Park in Ovalau with a march.

President Ratu Epeli Nailatikau will be the chief guest.

“This event should not be missed, especially for children, since it is the school holidays.”

The two-day event is being funded by the Government and other stakeholders.
