So Australia sends an admiral to reopen military cooperation talks with the RFMF.

Could it have anything to do with whispers in the sea breeze about a new base for our RFMF naval division.

These whispers wonder if the Chinese will help build this base, and the People’s Liberation Army Navy might get access to facilities.

One prominent newspaper in Asia has already speculated along these lines.

Worry Australia

The Aussies might now have more than independent Fiji to worry about in the region.

The election of Manasseh Sogavare as Solomon Islands PM for sure has worried some in Canberra.

In a previous stint as PM, Mr Sogavare – aided by our own international law expert Julian Moti QC – took on the Aussies.

He questioned their powers in his country via the Canberra-led RAMSI military, police and civilian force.

Mr Sogavare’s government was thereafter destabilised amidst Australian pressure. Mr Moti was pursued by Australia on now much discredited charges.

Interesting time ahead, perhaps.

Ship and buses

A prominent shipping company is living up to the adage of killing two birds with one stone.

Word from the grapevine indicates that the company’s new ferry is on its way to Fiji from Europe.

It has also brought along newly-purchased buses to further boost its roll on/roll off services.

Land request

A petition is being signed and passed around in the North.

The petition is to be handed to Government requesting if they could reconsider the changes over the purchase of freehold land by foreigners, particularly those who intend to set up residence here.
