Pacific Direct Line Renames MV Rachel
The MV Rachel is being renamed to Southern Phoenix.

The MV Rachel, operated under the Pacific Direct Line service, is being renamed Southern Phoenix.

This has been confirmed by the shipping line as well as its Williams & Gosling, which is the shipping agent of Pacific Direct Line in Fiji.

Williams & Gosling Agency operations manager, Madhulesh Lakhan, confirmed this. The renaming has been scheduled to be done when the vessel arrives back in Suva from her Funafuti run.

Southern Phoenix will be replacing the Komaiwai II on the service that Pacific Direct Line operates to Tokelau and Kiritimati Island (pronounced Christmas Island) which is part of the Phoenix & Line Island Group of Kiribati.

Pacific Direct Line said Southern Phoenix is a much larger and faster vessel than the Komaiwai II.

The shipping line believes it will benefit the trade with her lifting capacity of over 30 tonnes per crane and deadweight capacity of 4286 tonnes.

“Our Southern Moana will also be making a special call into Honiara after Port Vila & Santo on her voyage 263,” the shipping line said.

Pacific Direct Line will now be accepting bookings from Fiji to the Solomon Islands as per the schedule.
