tourism Fiji has appointed its Regional Director New Zealand, Wayne Deed, as the acting chief executive of the organisation effective December 26.

Tourism Fiji Marketing Manager, Michelle Sinnott, has also been confirmed as acting Director of Global Marketing effective the same date.

Both Mr Deed and Ms Sinnott will be based in Nadi for the duration of their appointments.

Mr Deed has been a part of Tourism Fiji’s team since July 2013 and possesses over 30 years of industry experience.

Tourism Fiji chairman, Stefan Pichler, said: “Wayne the necessary experience required to manage the functions of Tourism Fiji until such time as a substantive CEO is appointed.

“He will be supported by a very experienced team of professionals in our head office in Nadi.”

Tourism Fiji Public Relations manager, Patricia Mallam, has assured the transition will not affect Tourism Fiji’s operations.

“The team is capable to transition smoothly as they have been aware of this,” she said.

Mr Deed replaces Ken Freer, who handed in his resignation the past week.

Ms Mallam noted: “Tourism Fiji has benefitted from the wealth of experience and practical management that Ken Freer employed during his tenure.

“Michelle and Wayne have been with the organisation and have worked with the team long enough to understand the direction in which the industry is moving in.”

CEO appointment

Meanwhile, Tourism Fiji is forecasting the CEO appointment to be confirmed by late January.

Ms Mallam said names have been kept confidential, as per HR best practices.

“Once the candidate has been approached and contract finalised will only Tourism Fiji provide an update,” she said.

Mr Pichler said the 2015 Budget allocation has allowed the Tourism Fiji Board to establish their strategic direction and the global scope of work for the next year already.

“With the current dynamic team in place, Wayne and Michelle will ensure that Tourism Fiji will deliver accordingly during their tenures,” he said.

“This is so as to facilitate a smooth handover when the new chief executive comes on board in the New Year.

“The Tourism Fiji board is confident in their abilities to tide the organisation through the transition process and is committed to supporting them.”
