An accident in Walu Bay yesterday has claimed the life of a 24-year-old woman, Police have confirmed.

Amanda Qoroya, who was on her way to work, was on board a company bus at the time of the accident. It is believed that the woman was an employee of the Grand Pacific Hotel (GPH) and lives at Makosoi Road in Pacific Harbour. She was pronounced dead on arrival at the Colonial War Memorial Hospital.

Fiji Sun also understands Ms Qoroya recently married two days ago. Details are sketchy as to the cause of the accident. The company bus had slammed onto a Fiji Electricity Authority (FEA) power pole next to Carpenters Motors in Walu Bay at about 6.30am. The bus was carrying six passengers who were on their way to be dropped off at work.

The rest of the passengers and driver were rushed to the Colonial War Memorial Hospital (CWMH) for treatment.  Police spokesperson Ana Naisoro said: “We humbly request the general public to be safe at all times, and be mindful of other road users. The advice is being issued for everyone’s safety but the onus is on each individual to take heed of these warnings and comply accordingly,” Ms Naisoro said.

Police now await a post-mortem examination report. The road death toll so far stands at 48 compared to 37 last year.
