Fiji Now Through To Cup Final

The Fiji men’s hockey team progresses through to the World Hockey League Series Round Two in Singapore in January after defeating Papua New Guinea 8-2 in the Round One final yesterday.

The Shaun Corrie coached side will now meet New Zealand Presidents in the Oceania Pacific Cup first and second place battle tomorrow.

Speaking to SUNsports after the win, Corrie was thoroughly pleased with his side’s performance.
“The guys did alright considering that we had a really hard game yesterday against Australia Country. Some of them are still feeling the pains from that game. I’m quite pleased with their performances.

“There’s a couple of areas, especially defence, that we need to work on before the game against New Zealand President’s XI but overall I’m pleased.

“We qualify now for the World League in Singapore so we’re waiting to see what Fiji Hockey has planned for us.

“We’ll hopefully be able to secure some sponsorship and we’re just looking forward to this because the guys really deserve this trip to Singapore.”
Meanwhile, the Fiji women’s team led PNG 2-1 in the qualifying game for the spot in the World Hockey League Series Round Two when this edition went to press last night.
