Tamavua Family Frustrated

A family in Tamavua, Suva, is frustrated as they have seen only one water truck since Monday.

The Nave family has been surviving on rain water collected over the weekend and creek water for their daily needs.

Jessi Danford, 18, who was visiting the family during the school break, said there had been no water since Monday.

This was because of the damage to two water trunk lines at Savura Hills in Colo-i-Suva last weekend resulting in water disruptions in the greater parts of Suva and Lami.

“We have an extended family of 13 including three babies under one roof and it is very difficult to manage without water,” Miss Danford said.

“For our daily consumption, especially for the babies, we have to purchase bottled water as we do not want to risk their health.”

She said the family had been bathing in the river and cooking food using rain water.

“We have only had one water truck since the disruption started on Monday,” Miss Danford said.

Meanwhile the Water Authority of Fiji has advised that people can expect water supply to normalise by Sunday.
