The Centre for Appropriate Technology and Development (CATD), in Nadave, Tailevu, is looking to offer new courses from next year.

This was confirmed by the school’s director and Permanent Secretary for iTaukei Affairs, Savenaca Kaunisela, yesterday.

Mr Kaunisela said the courses would supplement the courses currently being offered at the school.

“Other areas of study we intend to implement in the school are agriculture, dairy and aquaculture studies. We plan to have courses on these from next year,” Mr Kaunisela said.

“This is to supplement the Automotive Engineering course that the students are running. The reason being most of the students who come here are from the villages so the option is with agriculture, dairy and aquaculture which they can apply when they return to their villages.”

He said the programmes offered at the school had always been successful.

“We have noted some students starting their own small businesses who are around in the various communities and some have also started their own businesses in the cities,” he said.

Mr Kaunisela said the school was allocated $500,000 this year, however, because of plans in place by the school they hoped to be granted $800,000 next year.
