Fiji netball squad members, Asilika Sevutia and Alisi Naqiri will leave for Singapore next month to play in the 2015 Singapore Netball Super League.
They are the latest Pearls reps to get a one-month netball stint abroad.

This was confirmed to SUN ports by Fiji Pearls head coach Kate Carpenter yesterday.

The duo was excited about the opportunity to feature in the popular tournament.

“I want to acknowledge God for blessing me with this wonderful opportunity,” Sevutia said.

“I also want to thank Netball Fiji for having the confidence in me and giving me the honour to represent Fiji in the Super League.

“This is going to be a different experience and I’m looking forward to getting more game time to improve my skills and fitness getting into the national side. We’re both looking forward to it.

“I haven’t played for the Fiji Pearls yet, so this is definitely something that will enrich my training and preparation before I can feature for my country,” Naqiri pitched in.

Carpenter said Fijians playing in the Super League would help boost the Pearls’ 2015 World Netball Championships preparation.

“It’s the elite domestic competition in Singapore and it has six teams.

Each of those teams invites one athlete from an international side anywhere in the world.

“Players will be coming from Botswana and Fiji. It is a good opportunity to our girls to experience a different style of competition and to work with different athletes they haven’t worked with before.

“Some of them are national reps from Singapore. But it’s different athletes, different coaches, a different playing style, a different structure. All of that goes a long way into preparing them ahead of the World Championships,” she said.

Sevutia and Naqiri will be in Singapore from January 20 to February 17, next year.

National reps who had played in Singapore were Unaisi Rauluni, Raijieli Daveua and Luse Kotobalavu.
