Litia Wants Top Title

Fiji’s top female bowler Litia Tikoisuva plans to return to the next World Singles Champion of Champions at the Gold Coast, Australia next year.

Tikoisuva won bronze in the 2014 World Singles Champion of Champions in New Zealand where she bowed out in the semifinals losing to Saskia Schaft 10-4, 8-4.

Regardless of the bronze medal win, Tikoisuva said her experience in the last six Champion of Champions tournaments had made her stronger.

“The Champion of Champions is the national winner from all the countries. They qualify into the Champion of Champions, and they are not selected by the association, but by winning the national singles in their country,” Tikoisuva said.

“It’s a really tough competition because everyone participating in that Champion of Champions are the winners for their country. You got to go out there and compete with the best bowlers from around the world.

“It was tough, it was a set play and it was a totally different ball game from 21 points if you win but overall it was tough with the wind conditions.

“The good thing about competing overseas is that you learn how to concentrate and play with the wind, in Fiji the grass that we use, the wind doesn’t really affect the bowls but in New Zealand and Australia it really does affect the bowls and so you need to know how to go about that, waiting to see where the flags are flying.”

Tikoisuva’s main goal is to learn from this year’s Champion of Champions and make a strong come back next year.

With her experience in the game, Tikoisuva said that Fiji has a lot of talent but there needs to be a coach and the sport needs to be promoted in order to grow it.

“Fiji has a lot of top bowlers but we are not taught like the rest of the world and yet we go out there and show them that we have the skill,” she said.
