Namaka Stops Lionz In Semi

The Ghandi Lionz team bowed out in the semifinals of the Kriz Signs National Club Championships in Nausori yesterday after losing 0-3 to Namaka FC.

What happened?

It was a slow start to the second semifinal as Namaka was the favourite to win the encounter.

Instead the FC Ghandi Lionz players surprised their fellow Nadi players with constructive soccer filled with well timed passes.

Few missed chances at goal from Ronald Dutt and Ilaitia Bului for Namaka kept the game scoreless after the first spell.

Namaka came back firing back in the second-half and put pressure on FC Ghandi’s defence forcing them back into their own half. The first goal came from Namaka’s Beniamino Mateinaqara after beating FC Ghandi defenders for the 1-0 lead.

Mateinaqara scored his second goal midway into the half before the win was sealed by their captain Isoa Ratuva for 3-0.

Star turn: Mateinqara’s class performance on the field helped his team push through to the finals.

Big play:

FC Ghandi Lionz had a good outing and showed persistence on the field in the first half keeping favourites Namaka at nil-all.

Comments: Namaka Football Club coach Pranesh Amarsee, “This is the first time we have been in the final. The boys have showed they can still perform under pressure which is good when it comes to important games.”

FC Ghandi Lionz president Mahendar Raj, “Even though we have lost in the semifinal to a good team, the experience from this competition will go a long way for the boys. We hope to come back even stronger next year.”
