Things are looking positive for the Ba Hospital after the contractor, Dayal’s Quarries Limited, completed the second phase of the project.

The $23 million project is to take a maximum of two years to build.

The contractor told the Ba Hospital Steering Committee that they are committed to completing the project on time.

Acting divisional medical officer – Western, Dr Susana Nakalevu said: “We are happy with the timing of the new project. It goes to show that construction is very positive especially in a timely manner.

“Tenders have been put out for the next phase which should be up soon,”

“The people of Ba are very excited about this, keeping in mind that the Ba Mission Hospital has been with us for a very long time. Sometimes when it gets flooded, people are not able to come to the hospital because the whole area is flooded which is not fair to the public.”

Dr Nakalevu said the hospital would also cater for people of Tavua and Rakiraki instead of travelling to the Lautoka Hospital. They can be treated at the new Ba Hospital, she said.

Dayal’s Quarry Limited managing director Brij Dayal said they were proud to be part of the project because the hospital meant a lot to the people of Ba.

“I am happy with my team’s performance in making such a good job on the second phase of the project,” Mr Dayal said.

So far $257,000 has been saved from the initial VEP projection and that will be returned to Government.
