Wesley College Ends Tour On High Note

New Zealand based Wesley College rounded up their 2014 Fiji tour beating Ratu Navula College 25-15 at the school ground yesterday.

WC captain Isaac Underwood was emotional to see his two school team play a friendly.

“this is historic for myself as I had played for both team and to see them face off each will be a good memory for myself,” said Underwood who was members of the winning RNC U17 side who crowned national champions two years ago.

But the Kiwi’s had to play with perfection to beat the Nadi secondary school champion side, but WC team manager Ben Hancock said score line was not what they were after.

“We are back in Fiji for the first time after lapse of 10 years and it is good to end the season with a tour like this especially with Fijian school,” said Hancock.

The team boast three Fiji born players Tekivu Kadavu (prop), Underwood (inside centre), Christian Bavoro (winger) and Cerei Aria who was born in NZ but have links to Kaba in Bau, Tailevu.

“It was awesome but was not only for rugby but the Fijian cultural experience and share the Wesley words,” he added.

“This was a great time to develop this players as well as some are in their final year in college. We tried to adapt to the weather in the first place.”

RNC captain and Fiji Under 18 rep Aisea Volavola thanked Wesley College for choosing to play with them.

“We thank them for choosing us to play as some players are former RNC student as well,” said Volavola. It was a good game and we did our best and we are all for the exposure and development of the sport.” The Wesley College rugby XV departs for NZ on Sunday.
