2015 Games Secures Over FJ$23m In Sponsorship

The 2015 Pacific Games organising committee has secured over FJ$23 million (K30 million).

This was collected through corporate sponsorships this year to assist in helping fund the cost of hosting the biggest international sporting event in the history of Papua New Guinea next year.

GOC Chief Executive Officer Peter Stewart said their target has been to raise K60 million (US$23.2 million) and they are just about to reach that as they have currently secured K55 million (US$21.3 million).

“We are on track and are very confident that we will reach our target to deliver these games successfully,” Stewart said.

GOC wants to ensure that every element required for the games are delivered to make this event the best and one which athletes and spectators can live to remember.

“To ensure this is achieved, we are doing everything we can to secure the funds we need, we are humbled by the amount of response we have received from corporate and State owned organisations to help fund this Games,

“The government of PNG has been very supportive and we want to thank the Prime Minister and his Ministers for backing GOC and for the funds they have made available for the Games,” he said.

“The 150% tax deductable bill that was recently passed in the last parliament sitting goes to show that the government is behind GOC because this incentive will go a long way to assist every organisation that has, and will be, generously putting their hand up to support the Games,” he added.
