15 Buses In Major Fire

About 15 buses of S. Nair Transport sustained major damage in an early morning fire yesterday morning.

Company manager Ritesh Nair said the fire started at around 3am in their garage at 9 miles, in Nasinu.

“The fire started early but we did our best to move as many buses,”Mr Nair said.

“The estimated cost of damage is around $1.2million but I believe that this will not directly affect our service since we have made arrangements with the Nasese Bus Company,” he said.

Mr Nair said they had enough buses to cater for the service and it could take them at least six months to get in more buses.

Meanwhile, National Fire Authority chief executive officer John O’Connor said five fire trucks had attended to the incident and were able to control the fire from spreading.

Investigations still continue to determine the cause of fire.
