Vessel Gets Lots Of Booking

It’s that time of the year again when inter-island vessels are packed with people travelling to and from the islands for Christmas and New Year celebrations.

Port Mua-i-Walu in Suva has been a hive of activity as inter-island ferries ship people to maritime islands and Vanua Levu for the festive break.

This included the MV Liahona which sailed to Vanuabalavu and Cicia in the Lau Group on Thursday.

Ship owner Ulaiasi Baivatu said they had been getting a lot of bookings since last week.

“A lot of the people from Viti Levu wish to spend the festive season at their respective islands.

“The demand is the same on the return voyages as people living and those working in the outer islands want to come to the main island for Christmas.”

He said the vessel mostly served the Lau Group.

He said the most demands were from the big islands like Vanuabalavu, Lakeba, Cicia, Moala, Totoya and Matuku.

Mr Baivatu said they were working closely with the Maritime Safety Authority of Fiji to ensure they adhered to their requirements.
