Fiji Pearls mid-court player Alesi Waqa is excited to rejoin the national team in training as they prepare for the Oceania Tri Series in January, 2015 Pacific Games and the Netball World Cup.

The Nawairuku, Ra native was among the 154 police personnel who underwent a six-month basic recruitment course at the Fiji Police Academy in Nasova, Suva yesterday.

“I feel proud now. It has been a hard six months and I had to make a lot of sacrifices especially having to leave behind my two sons in Lautoka with my parents in order to come here,” Waqa said.

“I was supposed to be on the team that played Singapore but I opted to complete my six-month training because I saw this as my future and my bread and butter, Waqa said.

Although she was on recruitment, Waqa has been training with the Pearls during weekends.

“I had to juggle, when they want me I will always find time to go and join them. I adapted well to the team’s training because we do a lot of physical exercise here.

“I just can’t wait to get back to the court tomorrow (today),” she said.

She hopes to be part of the team which would be participating in the World Netball Championship in Australia in 2015.

Meanwhile the Fiji Pearls is in Pool D alongside Wales, Uganda and Zambia in the 2015 Sydney Netball World Cup.

The games would be held in August 6-17.
