Wardens Gold, Uluinakau 1 and Red Rock 1 have taken the lead at the 2014 Fiji Bitter Mokani 7s after booking the first three quarterfinal spots in their final pool games yesterday.

In addition, other top teams expected to fill the other quarterfinal berths are Tabadamu, Speedwings, Army Green, Waimanu Gold, Nausori, Uluinakau 2 and Fiji Bitter Mokani who will all confirm their places in their final pool games today.

Meanwhile, organisers of the 2014 Fiji Bitter Mokani 7s tournament have hailed the first day of competition a success.

Mokani Rugby Club president Seremaia Vueti was pleased with the outcome of the first day of the tournament and the strong turnout from high profile teams.

“The tournament progressed very well today (yesterday). It’s a great turnout from a number of renowned teams like Wardens Gold and Green, Tabadamu and Uluinakau to name a few which is definitely a big boost for the profile of the tournament.

“The weather hasn’t been an issue despite the rain and we managed to complete the games for the most part.

“Our main target of this tournament is to raise money to complete our gym and aid the construction of our multipurpose court. So far we have raised $10,000 and we’re confident that we’ll be able to raise even more money and complete it by next year.

“The impact of having these two facilities will help boost the talent in this area. They will not only cater for the village youth but be used by the village school Ratu Ravuama Vunivalu Memorial School and Bau Central College.

“This tournament not only raises money but gives a chance to expose and nurture the talents in the community and it is definitely a huge help in the continued development of sporting talents in our community.”

Pool games continue today with the finalists to be decided and the finals played at the Ratu Ravuama Vunivalu Memorial School grounds in Mokani, Tailevu.
