T

he people of Lautoka have been awarded for their efforts after scooping the Large Town Award during the Municipal Councils Awards night last Friday.

The event was hosted at Tanoa Waterfront Hotel in Lautoka where representatives from different municipalities gathered to witness another successful Local Government Forum.

Lautoka City Council chief executive officer Jone Nakauvadra said his team was surprised to receive the award.

“We were not expecting this, but with the effort the responsible authorities have made, we should not be surprised,” Mr Nakauvadra said.

“There are many project plans that we currently have in place for 2015. With this we hope to remain as winners for the Large Town Awards,” he said.

“All we need now is for the people of Lautoka to have a little more civic pride in the city and take more responsibility on the simple things.”

Meanwhile, the Minister of Local Government, Housing and Environment, Parveen Kumar congratulated the winners and also commended the forum.

“This year’s forum has been very positive and we have had a lot of very constructive discussions and we will be looking for more forums come next year.

“Various municipals’ chief executive officers and directors with staff members have assured me that they will return to their different work places and put into action what they have discussed during the forum,” he said.
