The Southern Division Billiard and Snooker Association looks forward to bigger and better things in 2015 after ending 2014 on a high note.

SDBSA president David Ratnam echoed these sentiments during the association’s annual awards night at the Merchant Club last night.

Ratnam thanked all the stakeholders for their endless support throughout the season and helping to make it a successful season.

“Having reached the year’s end, I just want to thank our sponsors for the endless support and helping boost our competitions financially. I want to thank the public for their support throughout the season that definitely helped us get to tonight (last night).

“I want to thank all the players for their commitment to the game and coming to all the tournaments throughout the year. None of it would have been possible without them. Thank you all so much for the support.

“We’re giving out 27 awards which is all part of our bid to continue to encourage the participants to compete and also draw more competitors as well as award those that have been working hard throughout the year.

“We’re looking to get three more sponsors in the New Year. I’m expecting the sport to grow a lot in 2015 with all the plans we have. We’ll be expanding into schools and reaching out to the billiard shops, where I’m sure we’ll find lots of raw talent.

“We’ll be bringing these people in and giving them the right environment to grow in their sport and become more professional and compete. I’m expecting about 30 to 40 tournaments next year which is key to development in any sport really.

“Starting on January 15 we’ll have the national league sponsored by Cars and Cars, as well as the Business House competition with $2500 sponsorship from Fastkill to run the tournament. So it’s a jam-packed 2015 for us.”
