Savenaca Vue could only wish his parents were there to see him receive the Baton of Honour award during the Fiji Police Force graduation parade in Suva yesterday.

The 19-year-old Lomati, Cicia, Lau native said, “I wish they were both here, I am proud of them today for raising me up,” Mr Vue said.

His mother, Raijeli Veibi was still on her way from Lau when the parade began yesterday.

“Back in the village when I was a small child, life was very difficult so I always prayed that one day I become something in life. Today I have finally achieved it and it is only the start.

“I faced a lot of challenges in my life, one of which was when my dad passed away in 2007.”

Prior to joining the force, Mr Vue was studying Trade Diploma in Marine Engineering at the Fiji National University’s School of Maritime Studies.

“Nowadays, life is very difficult and I really want to help my family especially my mother who has been looking after me and my four siblings after my father died. They are all depending on me and I will look after them.

He was among the 154 Police officers who graduated after undergoing a six-month basic recruitment course at the Fiji Police Academy in Nasova, Suva.
