Extension To Improve City Hospital Services

People in the Western Division will soon enjoy better and improved medical services once the extension of Lautoka Hospital is completed.

The extension, the construction of a double storey building, costs $12.4million.

It will contain medical equipment worth about $1.2m.

Acting medical superintendent Dr Luisa Ratou said the extension would allow the hospital staff to provide better service.

“The new Accident and Emergency Department will allow us to have a more free flow of services because the rooms will be more spacious,” Dr Ratou said.

“At the moment we have four beds in the Accident and Emergency section and we will be increasing it to twelve and this will be very helpful to the nurses and patients.

“The bottom floor will have the Accident and Emergency Department and on the top floor will be the operating theatre that will include five theater rooms and one renovated room.

“This will enable us to cater for both local and overseas teams for our selective surgery,” she said.

Previously the Accident and Emergency Department used to have one entrance with the exit for outpatients.

“With the new building, there will be a particular entrance and exit for the two. It will be more organised,” Dr Ratou said.

Five medical officers will join the 13 officers in the Accident and Emergency Department.
