Emailing to Space

Allen Lockington, Lautoka

Astronauts on the International Space Station have used their 3-D printer to make a wrench from instructions sent up in an email. It is the first time hardware has been “emailed” to space.

NASA was responding to a request by ISS commander Barry Wilmore for a ratcheting socket wrench.

Previously, if astronauts requested a specific item they could have waited months for it to be flown up on one of the regular supply flights.

Wow, we are surely going into time or space travel.

With modern technology, we may just be travelling through space from a time capsule just like that wrench.

No more need to fly in places – we just get “emailed” over.

A funny thought just occurred to me. Just imagine if the operator of the travel machine entered an incorrect email address.

You’d end up somewhere else. Just like the joke about airlines sending you to your destination and your baggage to another place.

Youth Parliament –
a trend setter

Tukai Lagonilakeba,
Nadi

The Bainimarama Government’s positive move and the notion of exposing our youth leaders in an all inclusive Fijian made democratic Parliament should be commended by all and a big vinaka vakalevu.

Also to the major sponsors for their foresight and commitment in assisting our youths in their personal developments by fostering genuine training and exposure.

Which in turn I do hope that the majority of these youths may be encouraged to consider standing for election and joining a political party of their choice come 2018.

Perhaps it would also be a good idea if youths are chosen from their various divisions North, South, East and West respectively so as to give them a far greater opportunity from a wider cross section of our community in the grooming of potential future leaders of our Nation.

Wherever possible may I ask can it also include our Year 12 and 13 students as well, congrats to our Government and thank you very much Madam Speaker Jiko Luveni in your facilitation as the experience will no doubt go a long way for these Fijian Youths.

The Youth Parliament concept is all about moulding and creating a truly Fijian democracy which will be unique only for our country – and as a trend setter in the region.

A time to give

Wise Muavono, Lautoka

The Christmas season is meant to bring hope and peace to everyone. On Jesus’ birthday don’t forget to give Jesus a gift. What does he want ?

The scriptures say, “As you have done to the least of these, so also have you done unto me.”

So Jesus would want you to give unto the least of these. That is those who have little or nothing.

This Christmas, give something to someone who needs it. Feed the hungry. Clothe the naked. Show love to the lonely. Blessings go forward. God bless you and have a Merry Christmas.

Pakistan School Attacks

Ashneel Prasad,

Auckland, New Zealand

My son was in a uniform in the morning, now he is in a casket.

My son was my dream, my dream has been killed’ wailed a father.

They talk about religion and righteousness while continuing to kill innocent children. Is this their religion?

Terrorists are terrorists, they have no religion.

What wrong did those hundreds of children did in Peshawar, Pakistan that they were brutally murdered?

Even hell won’t open its doors for these people worse than the devil.

Didn’t their hands and hearts tremble while killing an innocent child?

I have lost faith in humanity, how can someone do this to children?

I can’t even write RIP to those 100 plus children’s soul for their whole life, dreams, hopes, innocence and family has been stolen from them.

I shall pray today for a better tomorrow while our present looks dark.
