Over speeding has been identified as the main cause of road accidents this year.

Land Transport Authority chief executive officer Naisa Tuinaceva said, “We have analysed all the contributing factors that causes road accidents and we found that overspeeding has been the main cause of deaths on our roads this year,” Mr Tuinaceva said.

“Thirty-six people died from overspeeding out of 48 deaths that were recorded on our roads this year.”

He said the authority, this week, would divert its operation to prevent overspeeding.

“There is a team that will be roaming the red spot zones between Sigatoka and Rakiraki and our mobility visibility will increase during this festive season.

“We will increase our resources and manpower to curb this problem. We place zero tolerance on overspeeding. Anyone caught overspeeding will have their licence suspended or terminated on the spot,” he said.

Mr Tuinaceva urges stakeholders to help them in reducing road accidents and overspeeding on Fiji roads.
