More than 400 warden officers were yesterday reminded to keep their work in line with the expectations of Government.

Commissioner of Corrections Lieutenant-Colonel Ifereimi Vasu said this while addressing officers during the service’s last Commissioner’s Parade at the Civic Centre Carpark in Suva yesterday.

“I encouraged you to continue to do the good work for 2015 which is the mandate given by Government for the reforms of the civil servants,” Lieutenant-Colonel Vasu said.

“It should start from each individual so that it goes up to the organisation and overall for the Government. Our focus is on the reforms; as of now there is a team that is already out there working in preparation for consultations that will be coming for the reforms,” he said.

The Commissioner also revealed some plans they would be undertaking in 2015.

“We are looking at assisting Fiji Pine; they have approached us and we have had a good discussion and I think we will also assist Fiji Pine in terms of harvesting. We are more prepared this year for next year compared to last year.”

He awarded medals to 12 officers for their service to the service.

Samuela Waqa, 48, of Labasa Corrections had spent 20 years in the organisation since 1985. “I’m thankful to be acknowledged for my service,” Mr Waqa said.

Eleni Berenadavui, 40, the lone female medal recipient yesterday, has been an officer for 19 years.

“Apart from this one of the major changes I have seen has been the promotion of female officers to superior positions,” she said.
