$30m Heroin Suspect Named, Charged

Lautoka businessman Shahid Khan has been named and charged in the case involving the importation of heroin.

A bail and name suppression application was refused in the Lautoka Magistrates Court when the case was called yesterday.

Khan was arrested after a joint raid on Sunday by Police and Fiji Revenue and Customs Authority officials uncovered 30 kilograms of heroin at the Lautoka Wharf.

The heroin was stored in 80 small packets stuffed in the inside of the tyres of a quad bike and addressed to a local resident. The drugs are estimated to be worth A$30million (F$48m).

The 40-year-old’s application of name suppression and bail which was denied by Magistrate Peni Dalituicama.

The accused has been remanded in custody and the matter has been transferred to the High Court in Lautoka.

He will reappear on January 14, 2015.
