Makereta Cokotuiqele, 31, was overjoyed with her Christmas Day bundle of joy, saying words could not describe how happy she was to see her baby son.

“I was not expecting to give birth on Christmas but I am truly blessed to have him on this special day. I was due on the 23rd but I am very happy with this unexpected Christmas gift,” Mrs Cokotuiqele said.

The first-time mum could not take her eyes off her son.

“Being a first-time mother at the moment is very exciting. I wish I could find the words to describe this happiness,” she said.

Mrs Cokotuiqele said the service provided at the new wing of the Sigatoka Hospital’s maternity ward was impressive .

“I was very fortunate to have given birth in the new wing of the hospital with the advanced machines and especially the air conditioning in this heat which was very helpful for any expecting mother.

“The experience as a first-timer was great. There was no complication, everything went smoothly and I am so blessed,” she said.

Mrs Cokotuiqele was to be discharged yesterday with other mothers who also gave birth on Christmas.
