Downpour Causes Floods At Vusuya, Narere

More than 50 houses at Vusuya Road in Nausori were affected during heavy rainfalls.

Resident Binesh Prasad said it was because the area was on low ground.

“I have been living here for so many years and if it keeps on raining for at least half-a-day, the whole area starts flooding,”Mr Prakash said.

“Some roads in the area are closed since it’s too hard for vehicles to cross,”he said.

Likewise residents at River Road in Narere, Nasinu, were also affected.

Resident Kusum Lata said families are usually forced to move their belongings at times like this.

“We have been experiencing this for years,” Mrs Lata said.

“I think it would be best if the Government considers relocating all the 50 families leaving in the area to another piece of land,” she said.

In a separate incident, a landslide partly destroyed a two bedroom house at Buiduna Road at Verata-Wailevu near Nausori Town yesterday.

The Nadi Meteorological Service has advised that rain is expected to ease off today.
