Former celebrity and TV personality Darryn Lyons was in the country during the last two days.

He was among the 690 passengers on board the Seven Seas Mariner cruise ship that spent last Saturday in Suva en-route to Champagne Bay (Vanuatu).

Mr Lyons, who is the mayor of Geelong City in Victoria, Australia, was accompanied by his English fiancée Elissa.

“I love Fiji and I have been here for the third time in this wonderful cruise,” Mr Lyons said.

His first visit to Fiji, on a cruise ship, was when he had his eighth birthday.

“This time is more special because I am away from work and with my fiancée and it is good to see the changes Fiji has gone through over the couple of decades,” he said.

“It is very interesting to me and of course the history of Fiji, which is close to Australia and we share a great partnership.”

Mr Lyons is an entrepreneur and media personality widely known for his media work in Britain. As of November 23, 2013, he was elected as an Australian politician, the 95th mayor of Geelong.

He has lived in London for 25 years, travelled the world and appeared on TV shows such as Mr Paparazzi, Australian reality television programme Dragons’ Den, Deadline British television show Through the Keyhole, Tycoon, Top Gear.

In 2011, he became a housemate in the UK version of Celebrity Big Brother 8 on Channel 5. In 2012 Mr Lyons was a contestant in Excess Baggage Australia, alongside other celebrities like singer Christine Anu and actor Gabby Millgate.

Meanwhile, Nadi Handicraft Centre general manager Anilesh Kumar said it was a dull day of business.

“There is not much business today, maybe because there are fewer passengers, besides the ship was also in a stopover at Suva,” Mr Kumar said.
