Thirty-nine- year old Baram Sen, of Sasawira Squatter Settlement, Davuilevu, is hoping to rebuild his home next month.

His home was destroyed in a landslide a fortnight ago.

He thanked the Minister for Local Government, Housing and Environment, Parveen Kumar for giving them a piece of land.

“The piece of land is a safe and flat area where we can rebuild our lives,” Mr Sen said.

He said they had been collecting money for housing material and had received help from some of his relatives.

“I live with my wife Ashika Nair and my four children, Komal, 15, Minal, 13, Ryan, 11, and Tanisha, 9.”

At the moment they are staying at a relative’s place in Davuilevu.

“We are trying to manage our expenses very wisely and we are trying our best to save money to rebuild our house and our lives.”

He said he was thinking of visiting the Fiji National Provident Fund to withdraw some money to help his family.

“We also have to keep in mind that school will be starting soon and we need to cater for our children’s needs.”
