Town Turns 75 Today

Labasa Town will turn 75 today and a grand celebration to mark the event will take place at the Labasa Civic Centre.

Labasa Town Council members and other officials were yesterday discussing the final details of the celebration before the big day today.

Celebration committee member Kamlesh Prasad said Labasa had come a long way and this had to be noted in the celebrations.

He said the town was very unique in Fiji because of its friendly people and their friendly attitude.

“I think no town in Fiji is like Labasa, that it why we have to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the town,” Mr Prasad said.

“It would be a very huge event and we have anticipated a number of guests coming to the event.”

He said there would be a special guest invited for the day and the committee members have worked very hard to make the day a special one for the Labasa people.

“Invites have been sent out to Government officials and we are making sure that we are not leaving any stones unturned,” he said.

Meanwhile, medals will be awarded to former mayors, dedicated council workers and former councillors.

The chief guest at the celebrations will be the Minister for Local Government, Housing and Environment Parveen Kumar.
