Outgoing Republic of Fiji Military Forces (RFMF) Land Force Commander, Colonel Ratu Jone Kalouniwai, will start in his new appointment with United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF) next month.

Colonel Kalouniwai will take up the post of chief of staff of UNDOF on January 9.

RFMF Land Force Command chief of staff and spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Sitiveni Qiliho said Colonel Kalouniwai had gone on leave to prepare for his trip.

He said as chief of staff UNDOF, Colonel Ratu Kalouniwai will be the Number Three man in the force.

The Head of Mission and Force Commander is Lieutenant-General Iqbal Singh Singha with Brigadier-General Tony Hanlon, a senior Irish Army officer, the Deputy Force Commander.

Lieutenant-Colonel Qiliho said the post of the UNDOF chief of staff would be for 12 months and could be extended for another 12 months.

Colonel Kalouniwai, of the chiefly clan of Lomanikoro, Rewa, attended his farewell service and lunch at his village last weekend.

It was also attended by the Roko Tui Dreketi, Ro Teimumu Kepa.

Prior to his appointment as Land Force Commander, Colonel Ratu Kalouniwai had served as chief of staff Land Force Command and commanding officer of the Third Battalion, Fiji Infantry Regiment.
