La Rochelle Banks On Fiji 3

Former Flying Fijian fullback Kini Murimurivalu played an instrumental role for La Rochelle as they held on for a key 19-15 victory over Grenoble at Marcel Deflandre.

Murimurivalu was assisted by elusive second fight eight Levani Botia and burly lock forward Jone Qovu. It was a tight start with Jonathan Wisniewski and Jean-Pascal Barraque exchanging penalties early on.

However midway through the half, La Rochelle produced a magnificent team try, finished off by Jason Eaton.

Murimurivalu started it by scything through the Grenoble defence as he ran it out of his own 22.

He got deep into Grenoble territory but couldn’t find any support when he was eventually stopped. Still, the home side recycled quickly and Eaton, playing in the back row, was on hand to go under the posts.

Fabien Fortassin converted and added another penalty as La Rochelle began to open up a lead, but on the stroke of half-time Wisniewski cut the deficit to four at the break.
