Talebula Shines In Begles Win

Fijian fullback cum winger Metuisela Talebula got Bordeaux-Bègles to winning ways with a seven-try 46-10 thrashing of Brive at the Stade Chaban Delmas.

It was actually Brive who made a flying start with an early try from another Fijian Elia Radikedike after an initial break from Nicolas Bézy.

The young fly-half was impressing and causing Bordeaux problems, but the home side managed to turn things around and take control from then on. First Pat Barnard was yellow-carded for Brive after killing the ball five minutes from his line.

Louis-Benoit Madaule stretched over from the resulting scrum, but Pierre Bernard was off-target with the conversion, one of four first-half misses in windy conditions.

Trailing 10-8, Bordeaux were beginning dominate proceedings and their second try came after a powerful rolling maul from their pack.

The ball was then spread wide and Talebula found himself one on one out wide, and used his power to crash through Gaetan Germain and dot down. While Germain couldn’t stop the Fijian, he was kicking well, and his five points ensured Brive trailed just 13-10 at the break.

Brive also fielded former Fiji 7s speedster Benito Masilevu, Flying Fijian flanker Dominiko Waqaniburotu and veteran Sisa Koyamaibole.
