Thousands Expected At Suva Street Parties

People can expect to have the time of their life in the 2014 annual street parties in Suva tomorrow night.

CFL and FBC are planning bigger and better events to welcome the New Year.

Loretta Jackson, the event manger of CFL, said the objective was to provide an event that welcomed in the New Year and a place that people could enjoy in safety.

She said that she was expecting more than 20,000 people in the street party and the ultimate objective for CFL was to provide a non-alcoholic, fun, family event in a safe environment.

She said “the 2014 Annual Fiji Street Party with CFL will officially kick off at 8pm, Wednesday and will end at 1am Thursday morning. It will be held at Albert Park.

Ms Jackson said it was going to be a night of dancing and entertainment as they would have the Vou dance group performing for the people all throughout the night and they would also feature some i-Taukei bands.

On the other hand Viti Brown, the events manager for FBC, said that this year FBC would stage another street party at the My Suva Picnic Park.

“We are expecting around 4000 to 5000 people to attend. We are hosting only one street party this year but maybe in future we are hoping to have simultaneous parties depending on the demand,” she said.

The FBC party targeted the whole family.

“One of the reasons it has been held at MY SUVA PARK.

“This year, FBC is planning to provide a swimming pool as part of the activities at the park, this will give the families an option for the children to enjoy a swim in the pool instead of using the ocean but be at an enjoyable environment,” Mrs. Brown said.

“Our evening entertainment will also be featuring some great names in music. We have the talented Tongan family of Soundwaves of the Pacific; we will have Willie’s Knights, Jale Mareau, Dokidoki and The Lei Dance group. We will have a fantastic DJ MIX which you hear on our radio stations from 2DAYFM, GOLDFM, MIRCHI FM, BULAFM, RADIO FIJI 1 AND RADIO FIJI 2,” she said.

There will be tight security. CFL and FBC organisers are working with the Police which will be on hand to control the crowd.
