Former Acting Permanent Secretary for Education Basundra Kumar has resigned after she was moved back to her old position.

Ms Kumar was the deputy secretary for primary and secondary education before she was appointed acting Permanent Secretary.

She held the position in the lead-up to this year’s election after current Member of Parliament Brij Lal had stepped down to contest the election.

Ms Kumar yesterday confirmed her resignation.

“I have tendered in my resignation today,” she said.

However, reasons for her resignation are not known and she did not wish to elaborate further on the matter.

But it is understood that Ms Kumar was not happy with the way she was being treated at the ministry. However, official comments are yet to be known.

Replacing her is deputy secretary Kelera Taloga who is now the acting Permanent Secretary for Education.

She was appointed in the position on Christmas Eve.

When asked about the changes, Minister for Education Mahendra Reddy said to refer all questions to the Public Service Commission.
