Last night’s drizzle did not stop the people of Rakiraki from welcoming 2015 with their street party.

Members of the public were treated to live entertainment and dances as children and adults heralded in the New Year.

Rakiraki Town special administrator, Ralulu Cirikiyasawa, said the event was to give back to the people of Rakiraki for a successful 2014.

“This is one way where we give back to the people of Ra Province and the stakeholders of Rakiraki Town for their support in 2014.

“This event means for all the parties to come together and say goodbye to the former year,” Mr Cirikiyasawa said.

“This is our second annual street party and we are happy with the presence of the public. We look towards 2015 with a renewed sense and look closely and be more responsive more than 2014.”

He said the changes put in place by the Government would lift   business in Rakiraki to another level this year.

The event was concluded with fireworks and cheers to another New Year.

Meanwhile, Ba and Lautoka City also held similar celebrations last night.

Sigatoka and Tavua towns did not host street parties as a mark of respect to their paramount chiefs who died last year.
