Education Followed Processes

The Ministry of Education followed correct processes when accepting former acting permanent secretary Basundra Kumar’s resignation, says the Public Service Commission.

PSC permanent secretary Parmesh Chand said: “The matter of acceptance or otherwise of resignation of any staff member within a ministry or department are within the constitutional powers of respective permanent secretaries.

“The permanent secretary of each ministry, with the agreement of the minister responsible for the ministry, has the authority to determine all matters pertaining to the employment of all staff in the ministry.

“The PSC is satisfied with the processes followed and actions taken by the ministry regarding the case to hand,” Mr Chand. He was responding to questions about the issues surrounding Mrs Kumar’s resignation and subsequent attempts to withdraw the same.

Mrs Kumar who resigned from public service on 29 December, attempted to withdraw her resignation two days later.

Ministry of Education sources have since confirmed that Mrs Kumar’s resignation was accepted and that the ministry would not be considering her request to withdraw her resignation.
