A mother of two was last night in the Colonial War Memorial Hospital after an alleged stabbing incident earlier in the evening.

The woman, who is a nurse by profession, was allegedly stabbed by her partner at a flat in Howell Road where she was renting with her two children and other flat mates.

Neighbour Sangita Deo said they heard screaming and sounds of women crying at around 6.30pm.

“At first we thought she must have hit one of her kids. Then we saw the nurse running up the stairs from her flat. A man was following her and continued to punch her. Neighbours ran to save her and stop the man from beating her further.

“She was crying for help and just wanted to be saved. We saw her covered with blood. She came and sat in our compound. My younger brother-in-law and another woman took her to the hospital.”

It is alleged that the man who is reportedly involved in the incident tried to flee the scene with one of the children but was caught by other men in the area.

Police spokeswomen Ana Naisoro confirmed that the nurse is currently admitted in hospital.

Their investigations are continuing.
