Taskforce To Review Policing Model

A taskforce has been set up within the Fiji Police Force to review its Duavata Policing model.

The policing model initiative is aimed at fostering a positive working relationship between the Fiji Police Force and members of the public.

Police chief operations officer, Assistant Commissioner of Police Rusiate Tudravu, said the public had played a vital role in their policing work since the launch of the initiative in 2013.

“There is a team that is looking into it just to review what we have done well and to look at some of the gaps,” ACP Tudravu said.

He said he witnessed positive responses from community leaders to the force’s community policing initiative in Cakaudrove and Macuata during the force’s festive season operation.

“That is one area we are looking at and we are currently reviewing our Duavata Community Policing model and that is the way forward for us to engage communities.”

ACP Tudravu added the community policing initiative helped to address some specific issues.

“The offence against women and sexual offences, these are the areas that we have worked on.

“But overall we tried our best to improve on our detection rate which is catching up right now. We are reaching 70 per cent right now,” he said.”
