The XINFA Aurum Explorations Fiji Limited, company has been granted a new lease for the new bauxite mining site at Lekutu in Bua.

This was confirmed by XINFA Managing Director Sireli Dagaga.

He said 20 landowners from the Mataqali Naita in Votua Village and the Mataqali Naicobo in Nawailevu would be employed by XINFA.

“Works on the new bauxite site in Lekutu begins next month and more youths in the two villages will be employed.”

Mr Dagaga said some of them had been employed on the rehabilitation programme at Nawailevu after the completion of the first bauxite mining project two months ago.

He said they had planted 35,000 pine trees at the previous mining site and it was part of their rehabilitation work.

Meanwhile, the Minister for Lands and Mineral Resources, Mereseini Vuniwaqa said villagers would gain from the investment.

“I thank the XINFA company for the big investment they have put into the lives of the people of Nawailevu and Bua,” Mrs Vuniwaqa said on her recent tour to the North.
