Recent bad weather has hampered work on the million-dollar Nakama Irish Crossing outside Labasa. However, Commissioner Northern, Alipate Bolalevu said contractors were committed to completing the project on time.

“Fiji Roads Authority workers are working very hard and everything is well planned and we hope to complete the crossing as soon as possible,” Mr Bolalevu said.

“The project will also help vehicle owners in the area during the daily routines,” he said.

Mr Bolalevu said that the recent adverse weather had forced contractors to stop work.

“The contractors are waiting for the gravel to dry up before they start working again on the site. But apart from this work is going well,” Mr Bolalevu said.

According to the FRA, the crossing would also include a new pavement and road surface on both sides and would be a metre high.

The cost of the overall project is one million dollars.
