Muslims have been reminded to uphold and spread the teachings of Prophet Muhammad.

The Minister for Industry, Trade and Tourism Faiyaz Koya, at the Maunatul Islam Mosque in Lautoka yesterday, reminded Muslims of the Prophet’s teachings.

“The significance of the celebration is to remind Muslims of our Prophet Muhammad and his teachings which was to spread love, peace and unity to everyone despite their religion.

“We have to love our neighbours no matter what the situation maybe,” he said.

Despite his busy schedule, Mr Koya made sure that tradition was still in place by coming to the mosque in Lautoka.

“I attended this mosque since I was a kid and I made sure to continue attending here. It has been a family tradition that I wish to keep,” he said.

Mr Koya urged all Muslims to honour the celebration.

Meanwhile, New Zealand Muslim League Imam Abdul Kadir said he was very happy to be part of the celebration in Fiji.

“I travelled from New Zealand to come here and celebrate with my fellow people remembering the teachings of our Prophet. It is very important for Muslims to remember this day and keeping in mind the message of Love, Peace and Unity to everyone.

“Our religion has surely grown and I am so happy about this and thankful to the people for their turnout today,” he said.
