Expect More Rain: Tuidraki

Rain is expected to continue in most parts of the country this week, the National Weather Forecasting Centre Nadi has predicted.

This was after parts of Suva experienced flashfloods early morning yesterday following a heavy a downpour in the Central Division.

Fiji Meteorological Service acting director Aminiasi Tuidraki said people should expect isolated heavy rainfalls like what happened in Suva yesterday.

“After some diagnosing the weather situation again this morning we saw that there is a trough of low pressure which we are expecting to come in later in the week,” Mr Tuidraki said.

“Now it is lying to the West of Viti Levu with its associated rains and cloud bands has started to bring in rain over the western side and even crossing to eastern side, therefore the forecast for Fiji is now occasional rain and heavy at times. This forecast is covering the whole group.”

He said this weather would persist right through the weekend.

“It will go right to the weekend and some flooding could be expected but we will monitor and forecast accordingly when it warrants us to do so,” he said.

“In terms of river flooding it is too early to forecast now but localised or flash floods in low-lying areas and small creeks will always happen because of blocked drainage and others.”
