Muslims Celebrate In The North

Muslims in the country yesterday celebrated a very special day on their Muslim calendar, the birth of their Prophet Muhammad.

In the North, Muslims from around the country and some from overseas all gathered at the Vanua Levu Sunni Muslim League headquarters in Labasa yesterday.

Chief guest and Minister for Fisheries and Forests Osea Naiqamu said Government had set aside Prophet Muhammad’s Birthday in its effort towards recognising, enhancing and promoting racial and religious diversity.

“We view such an event as one that brings about mutual understanding and harmony within families, communities, private and public sector and the nation as a whole,” Mr Naiqamu said.

He said Government would also like to convey a special appreciation to the Macuata Muslim League for their immense contribution and active participation towards the diverse development in the North.

“I would like to salute you all for the dynamic roles you have played over the years in elevating the status of the Friendly North,” Mr Naiqamu said.
