No Women For Uluinakau 7s

With the first Uluinakau 7s tournament of the year commences this week, organisers had scrapped the women’s grade as no teams showed any interest.

The Uluinakau 7s will be held on Friday and Saturday at Ratu Cakobau Park, Nausori

Uluinakau Rugby general secretary Eliki Kaisuva there was no excuse for teams to not show some interest as the main purpose of the Uluinakau 7s is to help develop teams.

“We have had a lot of teams confirm their spot in the Uluinakau 7s as it is the first tournament of the year,” Kaisuva said.

“We are a bit disappointed that no women’s team showed interest in the tournament.

“This is the second time we have invited female teams to the tournament and there should not be any excuse, the holiday season is over and we put up tournaments like this to help build the level of rugby among players.”

Kaisuva said the tournament will be much more interesting this year as six Indo-Fijian teams have joined the competition.

“It is nice to see interest among the indo community and I know the competition this year will be really interesting because of their presence in the tournament.”

Teams who have registered so far are:

UB Green, UB Blue, Yamacia Black, Yamacia Red, Wainadoi Babas, Wardens Gold, Wardens Green, Naocobau, Namara (Nalawa), Lomaiviti Babas, Navy, Navatuvula (Naitasiri), Serea (Naitasiri), Redrock, Tokatoka Westfield, Tuirara, Suva Stallions, Tabadamu, Tauranga, Nakasi Highlanders, Wainivula Eels, Uni Barbarians, South Sea, Lautoka and Nadi.
