A family of River Road in Narere, Nasinu, is looking for means to raise their lean-to-house to prevent further damage during heavy rains.

Joe Suka, 42, said his two-bedroom house has been overcome by floodwaters every time it rained heavily.

“I am planning to raise my house on stilts because it has been damaged by three floods last year,” Mr Suka said.

His family had been living at River Road for the past two years.

Mr Suka pleaded with the relevant authorities to improve the drainage system in the area to avoid flooding during heavy rains.

“Last time our house was flooded we lost a lot of our housing furniture because floodwaters entered our house in the early hours of the morning and we are requesting if something can be done to stop the flooding here.”

He also confirmed that the Police had visited their neighborhood to warn them to evacuate to higher grounds if the weather worsened this week.
