The Jet Runners Club of Nadi is eyeing another successful year following the success of their events last year.

Club president, Abhinesh Kumar said they have drawn up a strategic plan to help nurture their members.

“Last year was a good year for the club and we are proud to say that we are the only club in Fiji to have hosted a number of long distance running events,” he said.

Kumar said they are anticipating another big year and are confident of identifying potential talents who would undergo their 10-year development plan.

The club hosted more than 15 long distance running events last year attracting more than 60 runners per event in Nadi, Lautoka and also in Nabukelevu Village in the Serua Province.

“We have hosted running events such as road running, track running, fun runs, beach and mountain running but we will make things more exciting this year.

“Last year we introduced beach and mountain running and for this year we are working on introducing trail running and 4x2kilometre road relay.”

Dates for this year’s events will be confirmed later.

“Our New Year’s resolution is to host more events in the villages to encourage the people of Fiji to use running for health and fitness leading to better the standard of living,” Kumar said.

Kumar said club’s members collectively won a total of eight medals for Fiji last year from international events and are hoping to increase the medal tally.

“Our runners have shined at international events such as the Oceania meets including the Oceania Masters Championship bagging one gold, six silver and one bronze medals and we will continue to strive for the best.

Kumar said none of the club members are part of the 2015 Pacific Games squad but would be attending the trials.

The club will host time trials on January 17 to test how their members have fared during the festive season and later a membership drive.
