The Fiji Corections Service yesterday paid their i-reguregu to the late Manasa Vaniqi at his residence in Lautoka.

Commissoner of Corrections Lieutenant-Colonel Ifereimi Vasu said the late Mr Vaniqi negotiated their involvement in sugarcane cutting.

“The late Vaniqi helped us to cut sugarcane during the crushing season and we will continue with this in the future,” Lt-Col Vasu said.

He said inmates earned a lot of money from the cutting sugarcane.

Most of the time, according to Lt-Col Vasu, Mr Vaniqi would visit the Lautoka Corrections Centre in Natabua to thank the wardens for their work.

“When the inmates were cutting sugarcane, he would visit the field to thank them.”

He said all the FSC offices would miss Mr Vaniqi, who usually helped and encouraged them.

Lt-Col Vasu said Mr Vaniqi was a faithful and a hard worker.

“We will miss Mr Vaniqi,” he said in his traditional presentation to the family and relatives.

The funeral is expected to be on Friday.
