Council Receives 16 Complaints

The Consumer Council of Fiji has received a record number of complaints in two working days of 2015.

A total of 16 complaints out of eight were recorded online while eight complaints were made face to face.

This was confirmed by the council chief executive officer Premila Kumar yesterday.

Ms Kumar said the complaints were in regards to defective electronic products, online scams, mobile phones, restaurants and food items.

She added that they had warned owners of certain shops.

Recently, the council received complaints from consumers regarding a black substance found in the bread.

“My advice to consumers is do not give up your rights, keep fighting although it is a matter of small sum of money”, she said.

“The complaint regarding food items goes to Ministry of Health for them to look into the matter.”

She added it was the first time that they had received a record number of complaints in just two days which was alarming.

“In regards to complaints concerning any eateries or restaurant, our officers would be personally going down to the place to have a look after a warning is given out.”

She urges consumers to be careful and to report any concerns to the relevant authorities.

“It may be a small sum of money but it is important that you get the best quality for the amount that you paid.”
